The 2023 State of Remote Work report surveys 3,000 global remote workers. Among them, 53% are employees, 43% are freelancers, and 4% are business owners. The workforce is diverse: 38% female, 61% male, and 1% non-binary. Millennials dominate at 58%, mainly in software/IT and marketing sectors.

Positive sentiment towards remote work is strong. A remarkable 98% want to maintain some form of remote work, and 91% have a positive experience. Flexibility is the top benefit, cited in terms of time management, choice of residence, and work location.

However, challenges exist. One-third struggle with staying home too often, leading to loneliness for 23%. Work-life balance remains elusive; 81% check emails outside work hours, and 22% struggle to unplug.

Career growth perceptions are mixed. Thirty-six percent find it easier to grow careers remotely, a 14% increase from last year, while 28% find it harder. Job-seeking trends lean toward remote options, with 76% prioritizing remote-capable roles.

Overall, remote work is thriving but not without its struggles, particularly in work-life balance and mental well-being.
