The picturesque village of Ollolai, nestled in the heart of Sardinia, Italy, is rolling out the red carpet for digital nomads. To combat depopulation and rejuvenate its economy, Ollolai has launched the “Work from Ollolai” initiative, offering remote workers free accommodation for up to three months. The first participant, Clarese Partis, a software designer from Los Angeles, has already embarked on her Sardinian adventure. The village, which has seen its population decrease over the years, aims to transform into a digital nomad hub, investing €20,000 in the project.
Participants will reside in renovated traditional homes, equipped with modern office amenities and high-speed internet. While accommodation, utilities, and municipal taxes are covered, participants must cover their transportation and airfare. However, this isn’t just a free stay. Participants are expected to contribute to the community, leaving behind a tangible piece of work, be it research, a documentary, or any other form of knowledge enrichment. Those interested can apply online by December’s end, with the only condition being to provide a “knowledge jolt” that benefits Ollolai’s culture.
